A man who laced treats with tranquilliser and provided them to children at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two children both nine and ten years old.
The accused was detained after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.
She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.
The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepson had worries about the activities, with valid cause.
"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor stated materials including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his family member contacted the authorities about his worries.
She explained Ruben continued to play the "treat game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she continued.
The oversight body, the investigative body, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The legal representative said the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson notified the authorities a second time.
She stated the man then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
